Vask and Hibira are both hosted services that speak the Pusher Channels protocol, so pusher-js, Laravel Echo and the Pusher server libraries work with either one after a host change. On paid plans, neither counts broadcast deliveries to subscribers; both count the messages you publish. The differences are price per connection, how many messages each plan includes, how limits behave and what comes alongside the channels.

## At a glance

| | Vask | Hibira |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Protocol and SDKs | Pusher-compatible, same SDKs | Pusher-compatible, same SDKs |
| What counts as a message | Each published message, counted per month | Each published message, counted per day; broadcast deliveries not counted from Hobby up |
| Free plan | 100 connections, 500,000 messages a month, unlimited apps | 100 connections, 200,000 messages a day, 2 GB of data a month (every delivery counts), 1 app |
| Entry paid plan | $10/month: 500 connections, 2 million messages a month | $19/month: 500 connections, 1 million messages a day, broadcast deliveries not counted |
| Where it runs | Cloudflare's edge network | Hong Kong cluster (`hkg`); Tokyo (`tyo`) and Singapore (`sin`) planned |
| Going over a limit | Vask emails you; messages are not throttled or dropped | Hard limits: new connections and messages over the limit are refused |
| Largest message | 64 KB | 4 KB on Free, up to 64 KB on paid plans |
| Push notifications | Not offered | Included in every plan, Beams-compatible API |

## Plans side by side

| Connections | Vask | Hibira |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 500 | Side, $10: 2 million messages a month | Hobby, $19: 1 million messages a day (about 30 million a month), broadcast deliveries not counted |
| 1,000 to 2,000 | Indie, $20: 2,000 connections, 10 million a month | Starter, $39: 1,000 connections, 2 million a day (about 60 million a month), broadcast deliveries not counted |
| 3,000 to 5,000 | Team, $50: 5,000 connections, 30 million a month | Pro, $89: 3,000 connections, 6 million a day (about 180 million a month), broadcast deliveries not counted |
| 10,000 | Business, $100: 100 million a month | Business, $279: 20 million a day (about 600 million a month), broadcast deliveries not counted |

For the same number of connections, Vask's plans cost less, and Hibira's include 6 to 15 times as many published messages a month. Neither counts broadcast deliveries on these plans. In the plan details, Hibira still caps daily messages, peak connections and direct data per month (10 GB on Hobby, 40 GB on Starter, 80 GB on Pro, 250 GB on Business). On Hibira's Free plan every delivery to a subscriber counts toward 2 GB a month, while Vask's free plan does not limit deliveries. ## When Vask is the better fit

- Your bill is driven by connections rather than messages: many people online, few events each.
- Your users are spread around the world and you want each one to connect to a nearby edge location.
- You would rather get an email than have traffic refused when you pass a limit.
- You broadcast to large audiences on a free plan: Vask's free plan does not limit deliveries, while every delivery counts on Hibira's Free plan.
- You want many apps on the free plan.

## When Hibira is the better fit

- You publish a lot: for the same number of connections, Hibira's paid plans include 6 to 15 times as many messages a month.
- You also send push notifications to iOS, Android and the web and want them on the same plan and bill.
- Your users are in Hong Kong, Taiwan, southern China and nearby, and you want to know which city processes the data.
- Your team works in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai or Vietnamese: the dashboard, docs and support are in seven languages.
- You want hard limits, so traffic never grows past the plan you chose.

Switching between them is configuration: point your Pusher libraries at the other host. See the [integration guides](https://hibira.io/guides).

## Common questions

### Can I move between Vask and Hibira?

Yes. Both speak the Pusher protocol, so moving is a change of host, key and secret. Your channels, events and auth endpoints stay the same.

### Which one is cheaper?

Per connection, Vask's plans cost less. Per published message, Hibira's paid plans include 6 to 15 times as many a month, and on paid plans neither counts broadcast deliveries. On the free plans, Vask does not limit deliveries and Hibira counts them toward 2 GB a month. Every Hibira plan also includes push notifications.

### Does Hibira send push notifications?

Yes. Every plan includes push notifications for iOS, Android and the web through a Beams-compatible API, next to the realtime channels.
